Mechanical Engineer (HVAC Design Engineer)

Job Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer you will be responsible for providing trade specific system design: layout (utilizing CAD/BIM); calculations (utilizing appropriate software); and other related design services including coordination with the designs of other trades (architectural and engineering / internal and external) under the guidance of more senior technical staff.  You will be expected to take ownership of the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of the work assigned to you.  Individuals in this position must demonstrate the ability and desire to progress over time from basic design work assignments to more complicated and involved projects working in conjunction with a technical team.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Represent Syska Hennessy Group and work in close contact with and effectively interact with the internal design team as well as external clients and consultants (including owners, builders, developers, program managers, architects, vendors, etc.)​
  • Create basic designs under the direction of the senior engineer and/or senior designer; develop specifications, system narratives and system layouts for a variety of projects types and sizes​
  • Begin to establish system application, design and operational parameters/sequences under the direction of the senior engineer and/or senior designer​
  • Participate in / Ensure / Oversee QA/QC process for your work and the work of others
  • Assist senior engineer and/or senior designer in the ongoing determination of project scheduling requirements, manpower requirements, and project budgets
  • Perform construction administration and field investigation tasks for assigned  projects including conducting field inspections and subsequent detailed inspection reports
  • Assist the senior engineer / senior designer in processing RFI’s, Change Orders, Bulletins, and Addenda​

Mechanical Engineer (HVAC Design Engineer)

Job Requirements

Successful candidates for the Mechanical Engineer role should have the ability to use REVIT and AutoCAD for system layout and spatial coordination of the production of detailed drawings. Experience working on projects such as Healthcare, Mission Critical, and Commercial is highly preferred but is not a requirement.

Additional requirements include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an Accredited Institution
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in the MEP field
  • Current PE registration highly preferred; E.I.T. accepted in lieu of P.E.
  • Experience in current versions of AutoCAD MEP and REVIT required
  • Proficient in design and calculation software, e.g. Trane TRACE
  • Possesses the basic understanding of proper system and equipment selection and application
  • Exhibits thorough understanding of applicable codes
