Our Information and Communication Technology Group (ICT), in our Chicago, IL office, is seeking a Structured Cabling Systems Engineer.  This role will lead and support the engineering of systems for a variety of projects while working closely with clients, client reps, architects and MEP engineers in creating designs for all kind of spaces including Critical Facilities, Corporate Interiors, Sports & Entertainment, Healthcare Facilities, Airports, and educational facilities throughout the country.

Structured Cabling Systems Engineer

Job Responsibilities

As a cabling systems engineer, you will provide technical expertise on a wide range of projects. You will lead programming activities with key client stakeholders including the development of budgets. This role will partner with our engineering teams in the development of construction documents for the procurements and installation of IT systems; including CAD drawings and book specifications. The ideal candidate must have the ability to interface effectively with Owners' representatives, landlord/facility managers, government agency representatives and inspectors, other design professionals, internal project managers, and design staff.

 Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Work closely with project managers to ensure project success; utilize industry technical standards and best practices
  • Assist the project manager in managing project financial results and participate in business development activities
  • Perform QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control) review on structured cabling projects led by other engineers
  • Conduct bid analysis and leveling activities
  • Provide on-site coordination with the project team, including client representatives, construction managers, general contractors and subcontractors
  • Oversee testing and commissioning
  • Provide mentoring and knowledge transfer to junior engineers; keep current with technology trends and standards

Structured Cabling Systems Engineer

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree from an accredited university in Engineering or Technical discipline or equivalent relevant work experience
  • 5+ years of design experience in a variety of markets including critical facilities (data centers, call centers, trading floors, etc.), healthcare, aviation, sports and entertainment, corporate interiors, and educational facilities
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and organizational skills a must
  • Experience or familiarity with active network systems
  • Experience with project management and other technology systems such as audiovisual and electronic security, a plus
  • Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD
  • Proficiency in Autodesk REVIT preferred
  • Certification such as RCDD, PE, PSP, or CTS, highly preferred
