Fire Protection Engineer  

Job Responsibilities

As a Fire Protection Engineer, you will perform design engineering and provide system design support by working closely with all MEP disciplines to assure well-coordinated designs. This dynamic role will also involve consulting and interfacing with clients, architects, vendors, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction.  

Additional responsibilities:
  • Conduct field surveys, system assessments, and system commissioning
  • Attend coordination meetings and job sites
  • Perform calculations under Supervising Engineer/Designer
  • Produce clear and concise drawings consistent with client requirements and firm organization format and drawing standards
  • Apply Codes and Standards to all designs (including working drawings and specifications)
  • Conducting peer reviews and QA/QC oversight
  • Perform code interpretation
  • Assist in business development functions 

Fire Protection Engineer

Job Requirements

This is a great opportunity for a Fire Protection Engineer with Commercial, Institutional, and Governmental buildings experience, as well as experience in critical facilities and large infrastructure design. In addition to your engineering experience, to succeed in this role, you will need a solid knowledge of fire protection systems design for various projects with the ability to communicate design concepts via drawings and specifications.  Experience in Fire Alarm, Standpipe/Sprinkler; and Clean Agent system design is required; along with experience in the development of Fire Safety & Emergency Action Plans; Fire Protection Plans and FSES (Fire Safety Evaluation System)/SOC (Statement of Condition) surveys.

Engineer requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree from accredited university in Electrical, Fire Protection or Mechanical discipline
  • Minimum of 3+ years field experience with previous experience in Fire Protection and Fire Alarm System design and Fire/Life Safety Consulting
  • Knowledge of IBC, NFPA and New York City codes and standards
  • NICET certification in Fire Alarm or Fire Protection systems, highly preferred
  • Current P.E. registration highly preferred, or ability to obtain within 2 years of hire; Fire Protection P.E. is preferred  
  • The ability to work independently or in a team environment effectively in a fast –paced, challenging environment
  • Open to traveling to various project locales and available to work overtime to meet project deadlines
  • Latest version of AutoCAD-MEP experience, and REVIT 2012 or later experience
  • Possesses strong interpersonal relationship skills and strong communications skills both verbal, written and presentation
