 Vertical Transportation Design Engineer

Job Responsibilities

As a Vertical Transportation Design Engineer, you will collaborate with our national Vertical Transportation team for the design and engineering of vertical transportation systems for a variety of projects for our San Francisco offices. You will represent the Firm in all interactions with clients, contractors, architects, and other project team members. You will be responsible for system design and project engineering.   

VT Design Engineer Additional Responsibilities:

  • Work in close contact with the entire design team to maintain interdisciplinary coordination with other trades/projects consultants
  • Coordinate and correspond between staff, clients, contractors, owners, etc.
  • Collaborate with the design team on preparation of proposals and review of project contracts between SHG and the client, including add service agreements
  • Assist the Project Manager for the overall economic well-being of the assigned projects
  • Participate in QA/QC process of completed work by staff
  • Prepare vertical transportation analysis and perform system design calculations
  • Select equipment for use in building systems and write reports
  • Help mentor and train more junior technical staff

Vertical Transportation Design Engineer

Job Requirements

This dynamic role requires knowledge of vertical transportation systems to include elevators, escalators, moving walks and other materials movement systems. The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and supervisory controls systems for elevators/escalators. In addition to strong engineering skills, you will need a high degree of interpersonal and relationship building skills with the ability to develop strong relationships with team members and clients.   

VT Design Engineer Additional Requirements:

  • A minimum of ten to fifteen years elevator/escalator industry experience with (7) seven to (10) years as a consultant; experience with a major manufacturer in lieu of consulting experience will be considered
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Must be able to independently manage all phases of project including developing and maintaining client relationships, site surveys, field audits of existing and new equipment installations, report writing and presentation of findings and recommendations
  • Experienced in design, audits, modernization, and traffic studies
  • Expert knowledge of elevator/escalator mechanical and operational equipment
  • Must be knowledgeable in all phases of building design and construction
  • Ability to manage and perform elevator equipment maintenance audits and ascertain condition of equipment; comfortable and capable of working around moving equipment
